Foreign language recommendation/requirement

I had little to no college guidance throughout high school and I didn’t really know the importance of taking 4 years of foreign language, so I only took 2 years to meet my county’s graduation requirement. For higher-tier private schools will this “disqualify” me in a sense?

Just to throw some names around: Rice, Northwestern, Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, etc.

Thank you for the responses!

Provided you otherwise meet their application requirements, this will not be a problem. Stop worrying about it.

@happymomof1 thanks! Just asking a quick question to make sure I’m not dillusional by applying to the above schools, not stressing too much!

Four years would make you a stronger applicant. Only taking two years won’t automatically disqualify you, but it certainly doesn’t help, either. It makes it seem like you only took the minimum and weren’t trying to excel. It certainly helps make other applicants look better.

@Badgers21 yeah I understand, it doesn’t bother me too much, all I can do is apply with what I have and can’t be upset if things don’t end up the way I’d like! Not gonna let my life revolve around whether or not I took the perfect amount of Spanish in high school! Thank you!
