Once admitted to UM, how many foreign language courses must a student take to graduate?

What school? LSA, engineering...

LSA school

I believe it is 4 semesters worth of foreign language (2 years).

4 levels of one foreign language. Meaning that you can place out of 2 semesters worth and only take the 3rd and 4th level, place out of foreign language altogether, etc.

Do they have placement tests or do we have to use AP credits?

I really, REALLY hate foreign language and 2 years seems kind of excessive.

Pretty sure they only use the placement tests. I tested out of the first year after taking Spanish 1 and 2 my junior year of HS, then I did the second year during the spring half-term. Wasn't too bad.

A certain score on the placement tests can be equivalent to a certain AP result. I got a 3 on the ap french, but I did well on the french placement so that I placed out completely. This same result would have been attainable with a 4 or 5 on the ap exam.

So becuase you did well enough on the exam, you placed out completely?

I have had up to spanish 4 in high school (spn 1 in 8th grade), but my mastery of the language is still rudimentary at best.

I think I will probably study alot over the summer to master the language and then ace the placement test, because I have a feeling that spanish will lower my gpa in college...I just hate it that much.

HEY! tengo una idea! What if I pass out of 1 year of spanish ,and then take an intro german course or something? Does that work?

Nope... You have to master four semesters of one language.
