Foreign Language Requirement Confirmation

Recently, I've seen lots of posts asking the same question: If I took the first 1 or 2 levels of a foreign language in middle school, then took to level 4 in high school, and really don't want to take it anymore, does that count as 4 years?

College's websites usually word vaguely, so students do have reason to ask. I checked with my counselor on Monday about this. Unless my counselor is mistaken, 4 levels is what they're looking for. So if you've taken to level 4, then that's okay, even if you don't choose to transfer credits from middle school.

This makes sense. Colleges are concerned with you being good in a language, and it doesn't really matter if it's 4 years, as long as you can speak it to the proficiency of the level 4 equivalent in high school.
