Foreign language requirement for transfer applicant

I am a rising sophomore transfer applicant for this fall and I'm wondering whether the fact that I have yet to officially complete my foreign language requirement will affect my admissions decision or not. I've spoken with people in transfer admissions and the general concensus seems to be that, while the credit is needed, it isn't necessarily vital to have completed it at the time of application, provided it is accounted for before matriculation in the form of either an SAT II test or a summer class.

So is the info I have correct? Or could this possibly affect my admission decision?

Also, should I make some sort of notation on my application that conveys the message that, due to my history in french (6 years in immersion program and 3 years in HS) the testing is essentially a formality?

Any insight is appreciated

This seems to imply you can “finish” it at UVa (though you would just need to take the placement test to verify). [Foreign Language Requirement FAQ | The Undergraduate College of Arts & Sciences, U.Va.](http://college.artsandsciences.virginia.edu/fl-faq) Considering for French if you have 3 years of previous instruction you’ll likely be placed at lowest into 202 (and you’ll likely just be exempt obviously) then it shouldn’t affect your decision… Just make sure to notate that somewhere (the 3 years of high school french and immersion and intent to take placement test).

Thaks hazelorb - that really relieves some tension
