Foreign Language Requirement/Placement Exam

How big a deal is the foreign language placement exam? Do students who took a language throughout high school and did well on SAT II/AP exams generally place out? Is there any advance information that makes it possible to prepare for the exam? Thanks!

I'd liek to know this too. xD I got a 5 on the Spanish AP test and a 760 on the SAT II.

It wasn't bad. If you want to test out, you have to take the test in person, and they offer the test every month if you don't think you're ready the first time around (but usually it's better not to forget). I just reviewed for a week before school started from my AP spanish book and tested out.

So you can't outright get credit because of AP scores?

If you don't test out the first time you take the test, is it OK to retake?

if you keep failing it, can you take it month after month till you pass?

^i think theres a limit or at least a break you have take between two, but I BELIEVE you can take it more than once to pass again. i plan on doing this so I dont have take another language course. I already passed one language requirement but since I wanted to study abroad to a country that required another language requirement I had to start from 1 all overa again ^^;;

Awh man. =/ I don't want another test. Isn't it enough I got high scores on the AP and SAT II?

No. But you can take the test online, which is a huge improvement over having to take 3 tests in 1 aftenoon during orientation, which is what my son had to do 2 years ago.

if you can take it online then how do they know if you dont have some1 back seat driving or taking it for you unless i completely misunderstood

they don't. It's called the honor system. but the test is timed.

ooo thats pretty nice. i have to get use to the idea of the honor system; didnt have much of it in hs

Ha...I got a 5 on the Chinese AP...but one of my life long goals is to learn as many languages as possible...=D
