Hi, Pitt says that they require a series of two foreign language classes. However, I seem to remember reading something about being able to place out if you've taken 3 or more consecutive years of a foreign language in HS. I can't find anything specific on their website, so can someone answer the following questions?

1) Will 3 years of a language in HS place you out?
2) If you have taken 4 years of a language, do you have to take a placement exam to place out? Or does the passing of the courses automatically place you out?

Thanks.

My son is a sophomore, took 3 years of Spanish in HS and is not required to take a language at Pitt.

he did not have to take a placement test for it.

1) yes
2) no placement exam to my knowledge

I know my daughter had four years of HS German. I know she took the placement test at Pitt, but I think she may have taken it in order to place in a level of German because she first thought she would continue with German.

yes that’s correct and the info is here on the placement test website
