Hello,
So as I have been scouring over college websites, I have noticed that some a "Foreign Language Requirement" that is different from the number of years required for foreign language studies. One of the ways that this requirement can be fulfilled is with a 4 or 5 on the AP test, but if you didn't get a 4 or 5 does that you need to take a foreign language class and get credit for it in college?? Basically my question is what is this foreign language requirement?

The foreign language requirement is one that many colleges have in order to graduate. At some colleges you can place out of it based upon AP scores/SAT II Scores/departmental test. If you don’t place out of it you are placed into the appropriate level, or you can start a new language from scratch.

Every college is different, but will have the specifics on their websites.

It may even be different depending on the degree or the college within a university, so again check the websites. Where I went to college, you could get a BA in a major with a couple semesters of foreign language or a BS with a semester each of statistics and accounting.
