I have done 3 years of spanish at HS. Will I need to take any foreign language at UCLA?

provided you don't get a 3 or higher on an aplanguage test or have taken community college classes in a foregin language, then yes, you will have to take a language as a GE.

I read that they have placement tests you can take to test out of the language requirement (or test into level 2 or 3 of a language). Any idea how difficult these tests are? I'll have gotten through IB German (4 years worth) when I graduate, but I'm still pretty awful at German, and I think I might not do well on the test UCLA gives.

Is it better to just take a language? I kinda wanted to take one anyways.

Well I'm planning to take some language classes at UCLA anyways, as a way to raise my GPA.... hopefully.

I've heard that the placement tests aren't hard at all. I know someone who only took upto spanish 3 in hs, and placed out of spanish completely w/ the UCLA placement test- and he wasn't a native speaker or anything extrordinary. I think that if you're in an IB language class you'll be more than adequately prepared (or so i hope!)

so there is a language requirement for UCLA? i took 3 years of spanish at my hs so will i be exempt or do i still need to take a placement test or take a language course? how long do i need to take language for at ucla?

can this language be something other than the one taken during HS? i really really loathe french.

Of course the language can be something other than the one you took in high school

yeah i took french in hs but only got up to third year. i'm not too fond of it either, so ill take something else at ucla:

should it be spanish (practical)
or russian (cool, but possibly way too hard)

french didnt come naturally to me, so i dont think im very good at learning languages...

what if you're say, chinese, or vietnamese. can't you just take the placement test for that particular language and get it over with?

If you do take the class, how hard are they? I'm thinking about taking French [four years of French in hs -__________- and I've learned NOTHING]
