foreign language requirement..

can i cover the foreign language requirement of uc system with some of higher course like ap calc,ap chem,ap bio, etc....

cause i came to the us last year and my counselor said i could cover foreign language requirement of high school with some of higher course to graduate high school

If your native language isn't English, you're covered, says the UC.

oh...ok thats pretty good news...thanks

are you sure...? cause some of my friends said thats not true..

If you can take the placement test and test out of the first two years of language, then the requirement is met, as far as I remember.

do you mean SAT2 by placement test??

No, I mean the language placement test on-campus. Unless the new catalogue has readically different rules, the foreign language requirement can be met in the following ways:

(1) completing a college-level foreign language course equivalent to level three or above at UCLA or (2) scoring 3, 4, or 5 on the College Board Advanced Placement (AP) foreign language examination in French, German, or Spanish, thereby earning College credit or (3) presenting a UCLA foreign language departmental examination score indicating competency through level three. Consult the Schedule of Classes for times and places of these regularly scheduled examinations. Students who wish to demonstrate proficiency in a language which is taught in a UCLA department that has no scheduled examination should contact the appropriate department to arrange for one. Students wishing to take an examination in a language not taught at UCLA should contact a College counselor.

what if english is my second language?

As far as I know, you still take the placement test or pass an AP test.

Trust me, the placement test isn't so bad.

i dont know anything about german, french, or spanish....
korean and english are only language i use...

Then take the placement test for Korean.

there is korean placement test??

Yes, but it's actually written in Portuguese.

Of course there is. Korean's a major language.

what do you mean written in portuguese?.....

oh also thank you for all your reply...

dnduswo,

I was being facetious. Don't mind me, I just like confusing the young minds.

..............ok
so there is actually korean test and its not written in portugeuese right?

Yes, now quit worrying and start practicing your hangul, you crazy 韓国人。

actually im finishing up my physics project which i should have been doing for 2weeks. and im doing it in 1day..

useless science project...

Does knowing more languages actually help you in admission process? Except for your natives, of course.

one more thing, do i take that after i get accepted or before...
