I'm not doing too well in my foreign language class right now and I'm wondering if I can change if it is possible to make it pass or no pass (if not for this quarter, how about next quarter?).

If I can't do that, and I pass with lets say a C this quarter, can I just stop the sequence, and pick it up next year? I'm in SEAsian 50D right now and if I stop after this quarter, can I just pick up from 50E and 50F next year? Will my one quarter count or does it have to be consecutive?

Hey modernfuturist...vietnamese is getting to you eh? :)

Well, you definitely don't have to take the classes consecutively. It just helps so that you don't forget everything you just learned. So one quarter does count.

As for changing grading basis, the last day to do it through ursa was last friday :( ..so barely missed it. But you can still do it (just takes more work). You have to get it approved by the college of L&S (I'm assuming that's the one you're in). You go to their office (on the A floor I think...A316?) and tell them you want to change your grading for a class and then go from there.

Half of me says I should study harder and try to do better in the class, but I'm not sure if I belong in the Heritage learners class despite what the placement exam says. Everyone in the class seems to have a better natural grasp on the language than I do.

The easiest way out for me seems to be just to quit the sequence and pick it up next year after learning some more on my own during the summer or something. Then theres the easy way and switching it to pass no pass (how many quarters can I do this for?). Then theres the normal way, where I just tough it out and try to learn it and get a better grade and stick with it for the entire year.

I feel like my schedule is too rigid if I stay in it though, because I'm also in a GE Clst so it doesn't allow me much room to choose other classes.

People who are in your class probably flunked the placement test on purpose. (I know a few already...)

If you drop the class now, you'll get a notation on your transcript...which isn't horrible (assuming you don't make it a habit :D)

If you change to p/np, you can do it for 5 units a quarter (which is basically one class) or up to 10 units a quarter (provided you didn't do a p/np change the previous quarter...for first years in their first quarter, up to 5 only) and there's no limit to how many p/np changes throughout your entire career (you just have to be eligible...meaning good academic standing, not on probation..etc.)

oh...if you do decide to change to p/np...on the petition, i think you have to explain why you're changing it to p/np and why didn't you do it before the deadline..yada yada...but at least you don't need professor's approval or anything...

speaking of foreign language reqs, ive been told that for an international relations specialization for polisci, one needs to have 2 years of a foreign language.....assuming this is correct, does anyone know if it has to be of one language or multiple?

basically, does it mean that you have to go through spanish 6 or can you do through spanish 3 and like arabic 3?
