Does anyone know how the foreign language requirement works. Do you need one year of any level, or do you have to work your way up to a certain course number/level? Also, does anyone know how hard Russian 101 is, or how hard Spanish 100 is?

Hey Alex,

What I can say about the FL requirement dates back 2-3 years ago when I was just starting out at Vandy so I don't think it's changed too much since then but it may have. The requirement first of all is extremely variant depending on what school you're enrolled in.

Assuming you are in A&S - it should be detailed in your AXLE packet but I believe you must be at least at an intermediate level of langugage and math. In terms of Spanish that was Span 104. If you have never taken Spanish, you'll be fine in Spanish 100. If you have taken it, you will be given a placement exam in which you will want to try to place into at least 102. If you place into 104 that would only make you have 1 semester of spanish. I personally have found that the FL's actually work out as nice GPA boosters (at the intro/freshman level) because they count for 5 credit hours which means that you are just so immersed in it that it's tough not to do well.

So yeah, check out AXLE but that should be about accurate. Of course, if you're going to SAOP this summer, they'll def. help you ansewr that question.
