I’m new around here and just have a quick question. On the CU Boulder website it states that they require three years of foreign language. Most colleges I look at only require two and sometimes recommend three… Is three years truly required for admission or will it only boost your chances?
I’m a junior in high school, haven’t taken the SAT or ACT but have gotten a 1440 and 29 respectively on practice tests.
I have a 4.2 weighted gpa and 3.8 unweighted gpa
I have taken AP Comsci Principles with a 5 on the test, and will be taking AP Chem, AP Lang, AP Gov, and AP Macro this year.
My extracurriculars include altar serving since fourth grade and lacrosse since freshman year. I have won awards in lacrosse such as most improved player my freshman year and team captain of the division two varsity my sophomore year.
I’m half asian, half white.

All students are required to demonstrate, while in high school, third-level proficiency in a single modern or classical foreign language. Students who have not met this requirement at the time of matriculation will have a MAPS deficiency. They may make up the deficiency only by passing an appropriate third-semester college course or by passing a CU-Boulder-approved proficiency examination. Students who take approved CU-Boulder course work to fulfill this requirement must take the course for a letter grade and receive a passing grade of D- or higher.
Students who are under the core curriculum, but not subject to MAPS, must complete the foreign language requirement to meet degree requirements.

Yes , I read this on their website and can’t understand if it means I can take a course while at CU Boulder my freshman year and just pass it? Or must I complete an exam that tests my profiency in a language and if I am at the third level?
“They may make up the deficiency only by passing an appropriate third-semester college course or by passing a CU-Boulder-approved proficiency examination.” The OR means either option is available to you.

It doesn’t say 3 years - it says demonstrate 3rd level proficiency. I believe if you take Spanish 3 as a sophomore you have demonstrated 3rd level proficiency.
