Foreign language situation

I took German I in middle school, German II + III in HS. I dropped it junior year simply because our teacher left, and I couldn't see myself getting any higher than a C in German IV, who is taught by a much more demanding teacher. Not knowing about CC, I stupidly picked up Latin I instead of a different challenging core course, so I didn't really exchange German with a more demanding course.

I know it'll look bad that I got up to German III. Next year I plan on taking Latin II Honors, but I have 3 periods/week open. Should I pursue a German language independent study? I know it won't be the same as German IV, but I want to show that I didn't 'give up' German.

You should be fine. Most schools only require 3 years of language, and Latin is considered a difficult core course.

If you don’t have anything else to fill those empty periods, then German independent study is a good idea. But you should fill those periods with something.

AP physics is everyday and two extra periods a week, so i’m required to take a period of study hall. 3 days free.

I’m just debating whether it would be worth it. Would it help alleviate the fact that I dropped German earlier? The 3 periods are pretty crucial to me, I have a pretty tough schedule next year.

bump! i got to tell my guidance counselor within the next few days that i’m going to make an independent study proposal

bump!bump!

any more opinions?

I think that most schools require 2 and recommend 3

Two years of Latin, and two years of German is fine. Stop worrying about this. Take a class that you really want to take instead. You will get a better grade, and you will learn more, in a class that you genuinely enjoy. And, there is nothing wrong with a study hall. Use it to get your homework done, and you will free up after school time for a part-time job and/or interesting extracurricular activities.
