Hi CC,
My question is about a dilemma I have in my life and I’m sure many others have as well. Next year (for me, senior year), I only have enough space in my schedule to take either French 4 or Band. I have been doing french since 9th grade and hear that colleges like to see continuity, but I also like playing in band, which I have been doing since 6th grade. Which would benefit me more in terms of college admissions?
Any replies appreciated
Do whichever one you are more passionate about. The whole “colleges like to see continuity” is pretty much bs. Not showing continuity in either French or Band will not make or break your admissions, and you have pretty much shown consistency by taking both a number of years.
For this question, it is less about continuity but the level 4 FL. Do any of the schools on your list recommend 4 year of FL?
Unless any of your targeted colleges require/request 4 years of a foreign language. Then, take French.
Agree with the consensus. Check the requirements/recommendations of any colleges you are considering applying to. If any require/recommend 4 years of foreign language then definitely take French. If no school wants 4 years of foreign language then take whichever class you prefer.
Do they have afterschool band? Many do for this very issue.
Or coudl you take french over the summer?
Pick the one you like best, it won’t make or break your application.
