Harvard Admissions mentions taking “four years of a single foreign language”. If I take 4 levels of one single language (i.e. Spanish) just Junior and Senior year, as blocks, does that still count as “four years” of a language?
Usually, it means completion of the equivalent of the 4th year of high school language, if your high school has some type of unusual scheduling system. But you can ask the college admission office directly if you are unsure.
You need to talk to your guidance counselor about the particulars of HS block schedule. But the above post is correct, in that the college wants a foreign language sequence completed through level 4.
As long as you complete level 4 in high school, it’s good. So, if your HS has block scheduling and allows you to take level 1 first semester, level 2 second semester, level 3 Fall senior year and level 4 Spring senior year, you’re okay, as long as it’s the same foreign language.
If you need accelerationn to fit it all, there are summer programs (Concordia Language Village, Penn State Summer Intensive, Ole Miss Summer Language, Middlebury).
