I took 1 year of Spanish in middle school, and then Latin 1-3 in 9th, 10th, and 11th grade. My 12th grade schedule is AP English, AP Gov, AP Bio, AP Art, Strings, Calculus, and one other course that's yet to be decided. Latin 4 does not fit in that gap. Would it look bad on applications if I had only the language I have thus far (Spanish 1, Latin 1-3)? Should I try to take a Latin 4 independent study, or should I just put a different class in there? One of my options for the gap class is AP Psych, and the other is an independent study of creative writing. Which of those should I take, taking into consideration that AP Psych would make for my 5th AP class. I'm planning to apply to some pretty selective schools, so what would be the best? Latin independent study, psych even though it might bring down my gpa a bit by making my workload too big, or creative writing?

It really depends on the individual college requirement or recommendation. Each college sets its own policies. Of the colleges I looked into (a dozen or so), many require/recommend 3 years of one language, some require/recommend 4 years of one language.

Also check the colleges’ foreign language graduation requirements. Completing a higher level in high school may allow you to place into a higher level course in college, allowing you to complete the requirement with fewer courses in college.
