Freshman Year is right around the corner and I'm beyond excited. I was looking for a foreign language class and I was wondering in your opinion what would be the best language to take. I am a native Spanish speaker however I never formally learned how to read or write it. I took three years of Latin in high school and I am seriously considering taking it again this semester. My major is Political Science and hopefully a double major soon in econ. The ultimate goal is law school or theology school. Regardless, given my current goals and major what would be the best language to learn? Japanese? Chinese ? German? Latin ?

Latin was difficult in high school I got all c's for the 6 semesters I was in. Final exam of Latin III I did study and managed to get a B.

I am Japanese/Mexican ( explains for the Spanish ). However I have no knowledge of the Japanese language. It'd be a fun class to take.

Chinese looks interesting for future job opportunities.

Although I know a college class won't make me fluent in the language every ounce of knowledge helps.

Whats your opinion ?

I am really interested in foreign languages!!
As a sophomore I am taking
Honors Spanish 3 (I should be in 4, but stupid freshman me decided to take a lunch 8-| )
Honors Chinese 2
Latin 1 (I got a chance to take a bit of Latin in middle school but then I switched districts so I am retaking)

First things first.
You are Japanese, it has easy grammar, it’s the obvious pick, and it would set you apart.

I would drop Latin if you were struggling like that… The Spanish and Latin would give you a leg up on the German but it’s not going to give you TONS of job opportunities.

Chinese seems to be the languages of the future, and here is something you will like to hear: There is no grammar!! Just a super simple sentence structure but no ending or dative, accusative, nominative, or any tenses at all!! Definitely will help you will job opportunities!

I would say, do Japanese! Learn something about your culture, I wish it was offered at my school! All we have is Latin, Chinese and Spanish!

You should watch some anime to get you started! haha I used to be a bit obsessed :)

Anyway good luck!
