Is it important for people who plan to transfer after sophomore year to take a foreign language? I know that it might depend on the school, but do most schools care?

If you are transferring to a UC it is an IGETC requirement

I think most schools have a foreign language requirement, especially for general "college of arts and sciences" type programs. The 3 schools I'm most familiar with (my own, my twin sisters and my transfer school) all require at least 2 years unless you test out of it. When I talked to the Vanderbilt admissions people, that's one of the first things they mentioned.

most schools will require 3 years in high school of the same language or that you reach/test out of the 3rd or 4th semester at the college level... or something similar. unless you took a language in high school that you're still relatively familiar with, you should probably take at least one or two courses to be safe.

U of M LSA requires 4 terms (semesters) of a language to fill the language requirement. You can test out of it though.
