If November of senior year is too late to take an SAT, would I be better off taking the listening test in November of junior year, or waiting, learning more French, and taking the non-listening test some later month?

It really depends on your skills. Senior year is never too late to take an SAT Subject Test (unless, it's after the deadline, of course...), but taking them too late can get hectic and annoying. I (as a senior) have A LOT going on right now with the application process in itself, so I wish I had taken the French Subject Test last year. But, it depends... I would say the best time to take SAT Subject Tests are right after AP tests because then you can just study both at the same time without having to re-learn the material. Hmmm... actually not during May. More like June-ish. If you don't do well on that one, you can always sign up for the July one (I think there's July tests, but I don't know...).

But, again, this is more your decision. If you feel as though your French is good enough by the end of junior year to get the score you're aiming for, definitely do it because then it's just one less thing to do.

P.S. Start working on your application and college essays NOW lol... or at least during your junior year sometime. It'll make your senior year so much less stressful...

There are no July tests.
