I'm starting to panic. I got an e-mail about my financial aid and went to check that out. While I was looking at that, I saw that I need to have a letter explaining why I don't have a foreign language. I've never heard or seen anything about this before. Is it too late to send one? One other school (in-state) asked me for a letter as well as one from my counselor. Could I just send them that one? Will I be penalized for being so late?

Help?

Well I actually haven’t heard of anyone not taking a foreign language…most colleges require at least 2 years. I would definitely send them both yours and the one from your counselor because that may give you a little more leway. This late you can’t get penalized much more so just do it.

I know it was really stupid of me not to have taken one, but it actually only mattered to two colleges. U of M just wanted a letter explaining why I didn’t take one and now I find out Cornell wants one too. The other ten (yeah, I know I’m crazy for doing 12 schools) didn’t even mention it.

I can’t believe I didn’t realize that Cornell needed them until now. I guess I wasted time applying there.

Don’t think of it as a waste of time, just an experience. I applied to 8 so I dont’ think 12 is crazy haha it is good to have options. Is Cornell one of your top choices or did you just apply to have one more option?

It’s near the top, but I don’t have my heart set on it. It’s kind of funny because when I started applying I had my heart set on the ivies, but my mom made my apply to some local schools. I swore that I would never go to any of them. It’s not really about the fact that they’re ivies, I’ve just always wanted to go to a large school on the east coast. As the application process wears on, I’m actually leaning towards an in-state University and one or two of the ivies I applied to. I’ve already been accepted to five schools, so at this point it would be REALLY fantastic if I got into somewhere great, but I know I still have options if those don’t work out.

Well you seem to be in pretty great shape (and have a smart mother haha) State schools are just as good and sometimes can provide a better overall experience. Congrats and I am sure you will get in to more!
