Whats with the four semesters worth of foreign language requirements? It seems a little weird to only have one semester of english requirement but have four semesters worth of foreign language. Anyone else have any thoughts?

that’s only CAS. i think Tisch, Gallatin and Steinhardts such as myself only have one semester of proficiency.

i totally bombed out of Elementary Chinese I though, ughhhhhhhhhh.

I feel like its going to kill my gpa… I barely got by with B’s in spanish in high school. I want to take arabic but I feel like i’ll have a hard time even passing and it’ll kill m gpa

you can reduce how many semesters you have to take a language if you can study an SAT II in Spanish over the summer and test out. if you do really well (i think over a 600 or 630, don’t quote me on the numbers) you can test out entirely.

we have lots of languages here: [NYU > CAS > MAP](http://www.nyu.edu/cas/map/pda/components.html#foreignlanguage)

and here’s the testing requirements: [NYU | CAS | Freshman Orientation | Important Information about Placement/Proficiency Examinations](http://www.nyu.edu/cas/orientation/placement.html)

if you’re not doing anything this summer, grab an SAT II Spanish book and study. you might be able to save yourself four semesters of boredom.

then take Arabic pass/fail as an elective.
