Okay, so I'm an about to be a senior, and due to the fact that my schools Language Program sucks and a conflict in my schedule I held off on taking Spanish I until my soph year. So, to make up for not having 4 years of the same foreign language, would it be a good idea to take two 12 week courses of a different language online? I figure it would be interesting to learn some Arabic or maybe take 3 sessions of Chinese. (CTY online)

any advice?

Explain the situation - you can never be held accountable on college applications for something that was out of your control.

Okay, Spaninsh 3 and Spanish 4 meet the same period… same class… same teacher… same work… they literally are no different… so i didnt feel the need to take it… however alot of school recomend 4 years of a lang, so i was wondering if I were to take 3 years of Spanish (already going into span 3) and also go online and take 2 courses (equivelent to 2 years i think) of a different language would that make up for a lack of a 4th year?

I understand that its not a huge factor, but i want my app to look as good as possible

You shouldn’t take another language to “make up” for the fact that you don’t have 4 years of a language. However, it would just be another aspect of a “rigorous” schedule. If you do decide to go that route of taking another foreign language through CTY, do mention that you chose not to take Spanish 4 because it is essentially the same class and you felt it wouldn’t significantly bolster your facility with the language.

Also +1 for huinsider, who is absolutely correct.
