Foreign languages: would this look bad?

Hi i'm currently going to be a junior.

I tried dropping spanish III honors to spanish III cp, but there was no room available. The teacher for spanish iii H gives practically no A's, and spanish has always been my weekest subject. I've gotten all A's through freshman and sophomore year. I'm considering dropping spanish iii and not taking a foreign language junior year. Im taking 5 other AP courses junior year. I'll try my luck for a better teacher senior year and try taking spanish iii then. And even if I don't get a better teacher, isn't getting a B in senior year is better than in junior year? I've also already taken the AP Chinese test and passed with a 4 freshman year.

So basically, would it look bad if i took two years of a language, took a break junior year, and took a third year of spanish senior year? Would it look like i'm padding my app last minute? And how is it taking 3 years vs. 4 years? Thanks!

Are you considering dropping the class just because the teacher doesn’t give many As? I think that’s silly. One B is not going to destroy your life, if you even do get a B in Spanish. I think it’s far more important to continue taking Spanish III than it is to drop it just because you might get a B (oh noes!) instead of an A.

If the school year has not started yet, it should not show up as a drop. My schedule was completely wrong when I picked it up earlier this week. They completely changed it and I pick up my new one today. Same thing happened last year. Last year, I was supposed to take AP math and they put me in regular level Algebra 2. Things like that. But my understanding is that schedule changes do not show. I have seen my transcript and none of the classes that I was originally put in before the changes are not listed.

The main problem with dropping it is though, do you have to take a 3rd year of language? Because, it might be harder to take Spanish 3 after a year off. However, it is important that you do well in those AP courses. Maybe you will have more time next year on your schedule and can do Rosetta Stone over the summer or something to review for senior year.

A B in an honors class is not going to horrify the admissions people from most colleges. A B in an honors class is more impressive than an A in college prep because it shows that you are challenging yourself rather than being anxious about a 4.0
