What are your favorite foreign songs or artists? I know a lot of people tend to like European music or even Japanese artists, but in reality, besides Lady GaGa or U2, is there a flavor of foreign music you like?

well I'm Korean and this isn't really foreign to me but in case, I'm REALLY addicted to this song. It's called "Tell Me Your Wish" and it's a song by a group called So Nyuh Shi Dae ("Girls' Generation" in English). They're a group of 9 girls whose concept is to represent today's generation of girls (9 girls is A LOT? Well this other boy group named Super Junior has 13 members and this Japanese group Morning Musume has like 20 members who rotate each album, haha)

Oh and I think someone on this forum has the name "so nyuh shi dae" hahaha. I should find out who he/she is. hmm...

In any case, LISTEN to this song. It's soo catchy and good! Tell me what you think! It English subs too.

DJ~ put it back on!
kuraeyo nah noel saranghae
unjenah miduh~

If you're going to participate in this thread, you HAVE to listen to the foreign songs in its entirety. It's only fair!

Share, share, share! I want new songs on my iPod anyway =D. OH and I wanna hear what people have to say about each others favorite foreign songs too! So don't forget that!

Lady GaGa is from New York… how is she foreign?

I personally love modern Indian music. My friend from India burns a bunch of CDs for me so I couldn’t tell you who they are or what songs, but they’re good.

I also really like this political band from Central or South America… but their name is escaping me right now.

oh my god…stonecutter, hahahaha. wow i totally forgott! thanks! wow, hahah, i feel so weird. reminiscing about last year on CC brings back memories!

sorry guys, i guess i wasn’t clear. what i meant to say was that besides listening to american artists like lady gaga, is there anything out of the country that you like? is that clearer? O.o

a lot of my friends like byork (including my cousins from korea o.O). i haven’t listened to her but i know she makes really interesting and different (like mystical?) music.

and PRISM. isn’t k pop sooo addicting?! EVERYONE MUST LISTEN TO “TELL ME YOUR WISH” now!

guys, guys, share your artists! i’m gonna look up all the artists runningwriter just listed now XD

Almost all the ones I listed are electronic fyi. M83 is by far my favorite artist (foreign or not foreign). Check out the songs We Own the Sky, Graveyard Girl, Kim & Jessie, Teen Angst, and Don’t Save Us From the Flames in particular.

I love Royskopp, Yelle (great taste in music, running writer!), Sigur Ros, Glen Haansard and Marketa Irglova (Ireland and Czech Republic, I believe?), Jesse y Joy (Mexico, beautiful pop songs), and Elodie (also from France). Most of the music I listen to is foreign, pretty much. American music doesn’t suit me much these days.

^Nice! I’m going to look up some of the artists you posted that I’m not familiar with. It sounds like we have a similar taste in music!

And I agree, American music seems to be lacking. The worst thing though, is trying to find a concert in the U.S. by these foreign artists. I know Yelle played last year and M83 played last January (with The Killers), but other than that, it’s really hard to find those concerts. I would love to go to a Yelle concert :)

Other people like M83?! Fantastic. Graveyard Girl and We Own the Sky are definitely some of my favorite songs.

M83, Sigur Ros, and Pink Martini come to mind though I’m sure there are others I’m forgetting. I’m a pretty big indie music fan so a lot of my stuff comes from all over the place.

@runningwriter: I’m glad I’ve provided a new artist for your listening pleasure! I only wish I could speak Icelandic (though there are translations provided throughout the net)!

Lol spookyjeff, when I say M83 is my favorite artist, people give me this confused look as if I have 3 heads. It’s such good music though! Saturdays = Youth is amazing!

I love all of those artists! I just watched Once last week after looking for it for a while.

I don’t really know, since I don’t categorize my artists by nationality and scanning through my iTunes now it’s hard to pick them out, but here are a few:
Damien Rice
Within Temptation - I listened to one of their songs 60 times in a row
Flight of the Conchords
Shostakovitch (and a lot of other classical stuff)
Yann Tiersen
This one Thai instrumental song by สุนทรี เวชานนท์ if that shows up
Benoit Jutras
Paolo Nutini
Dima Bilan
Marija Serifovic
