Take this with a grain of salt but I have heard that the written test to pass out of a 3rd level language test is comparable to a final exam for the associated class and you need to do significantly well in order to pass. My friend, who is a native speaker of Spanish, did not pass the first time around and had to subsequently retake it as it tested things he was unfamiliar with. Once again, it probably varies by language as each test is written by the associated department and this is strictly my friend’s thoughts about the Level 3 Spanish exam. They do allow for retakes after a certain period of time has passed by.

Basically you need around a 90% to pass out of level 3, the requirement. That’s roughly equivalent to an A or B in an AP class and a 3 or better on the AP exam.
