<p>As no one has posted information on this, I'll take a shot at it:</p>
<p>Foreign service entrance consists of many parts. First, of course, is the written examination, a multitude of questions relating to international and national culture, basically general knowledge. Topics can go anywhere from the location of Azerbajian in proximity to other countries to the effect of McCullough v. Maryland.</p>
<p>If you score sufficiently on the written examination, then you go up for the oral examination. Once the oral examination is complete, a list of candidates eligible for hire is posted. Foreign service personnel are then hired from the list, providing medical and security clearance is verified. </p>
