"but i'm honoured that kwaldner thinks that Princeton is harder to get into than H Y and S!"

I guess Screwitlah is at princeton. which is an AMAZING feat. So, if i am right, congratulations !!! :D

But yeah, for an average applicant, i don't know if Princeton is harder to make than Harvard and Yale. For one, the sheer size of the applicant pool at Harvard and Yale is larger than Princeton's, and secondly, I was able to make princeton and stanford, but was waitlisted at harvard and yale...so from my perspective, they are harder to get into. But do realise that different genres of applicants have different high reaches and low reaches. If you are an average to above average international math/sci applicant (who is probably amazing within his/her high school), the MIT, Caltech, Stanford and Princeton are gonna be very very hard, just because almost every other applicant has similar skill set to offer. Similarly, for a humanities student, Harvard and Yale are going to be the Big schools....

tuna, you have to understand that fiona_ is from NUSHS and she also probably has higher standards.... haha i was never good at math olympiads lah so SMO gold is pretty much god-like to me. it's a pity you can't represent singapore for IMO!

From my point of view, silver for SMO is an excellent job, considering the difficulty level (from what I have seen from past papers!)

LOL! if only RJ n NUSHS n HCI din't exist! life would be sooooo much easier for us! HEHE! :P

if they didn't exist, their students would just go to the next best school. no difference there :)

LOL! yeah... and then we would like be in top schools too!
(sucks for scholars; they dun't tell us what JC we're going into before they bring us to singapore!) :(
(used to be in like the RJ equivalent school in india; 2 got into MIT...!! hehe... can i like mention that somewhere... left it only cuz i got the scholarship...) (:

hehe... what if the SUPER-BRAINS from RJ and HC and NUSH din't exist... HEHEHEHEH! :P

LOL! what if the SUPER-BRAINS from RJ and HC and NUSH din't exist!
HAHAHA! :P

LOL Tuna you must hate us so much that you posted that many times.. :D Lol not to worry la, it doesn't matter which school you are from if you have the brains. Look, that guy from your school made it to Harvard right? :)

haha... nah.. kidding! does get kinda frustrating sometimes... but actually i absolutely LOVE TJC! Green Glory! HAHA! :)
(but ermm... actually... college does matter, right...? for admissions?)

eh! yeah... can i mention that i was from a top school (won prizes for being the best in asia a few times and clearly the no. 1 in india) before i took the scholarship? is there like a section for schools attended...?

there is a section for previous high schools, but there is no room for past prizes etc...u choose what u think are your 5-6 most significant prizes and you list them only. Some people do additional essays on other awards, but i suggest you do not...i don't think it will help much at all

Haha Tuna no worries I was just kidding too. (See the :D there? haha..)

Anw, one way is to find out whether your old school has a school profile and send it along with your current JC profile.. Considering your old school is #1 in India, then I think it should have it?

don't. they don't need any of the applicants telling them they were from a top school. by now they should be familiar with all the top high schools outside the US.

Hi! I know I'm being overly apprehensive; but could you guys just list the universities which SURELY don't require the June Common Test/ Mid-Year scores for Singapore students, and some for which you're sure they do. I emailed my school counselor and, pure TJC style, he just told me exams are always important and well, I should work very hard for them! LOL! So, not much info there... Please just LIST the univs which you're sure of in two columns. Thanks thanks thanks a LOT, guys! I owe you big for all the help! :)

Univs (out of my list) which require JCT Grades:

Univs which DO NOT require JCT Grades:

(I sure hope the second list is longer! (: )

what about the ivies and MIT and Caltech, Purdue, UChicago all...?
Berkeley states it clearly in it's admission app requirements, right...?

You need to stop hyping up about foreign schools. In the end, fit and cost-effectiveness (aka marginal utility) will be more important than reputation.

Apply to a good variety -- you should also look at schools that are in "demand" of international applicants (that is, they desire more international applicants than those that are currently admitted).
