Foreigner joined high school at the middle of the Freshman

First, sorry about my bad English...

I'm a junior right now, and I'm kind of worry about college. I attended my high school at the 2nd semester in Freshman year, and I didn't understand most of the stuff that teachers were saying (Chinese is my first language) so I got a total of 3.13 GPA. (from the 2nd semester of the Freshman year till 10 grades) I'm really worry about my low GPA, but I heard I can tell the colleges that I didn't understand most of the stuff so I got a bad GPA. Is that true? If it is then how am I gonna tell the colleges?

I don’t think its really going to count against you that much since english is not your first language. Just remember to always show an upward trend in your grades. Remember many factors come into play in college admissions; so as long as you’re improving I wouldn’t worry about it :)

But how would the colleges know that English is not my first language? Do I tell them on the application or something else?

You could address it in your essay or have you counselor discuss it in their recommendation or both.
