So I'm taking a bunch of AP classes. 7 to be exact (Well, if you count Gov. and Eco. as separate).

AP: Bio, French, Calculus BC, Euro, Gov, Eco, English

I signed up for Forensic Science, which is supposed to be a blow-off class. I don't usually take Level classes at my school, but with all my AP classes, the only options for that period were AP Chem (which I did not want to take in addition to AP Bio) or a bunch of Level classes. Forensics looked like the best of the bunch. But I don't really Level classes because a) you get annoying kids who stall class when you're trying to learn b) you get annoying kids who want to cheat off of you and c) as a kid drowned in honors classes, I don't know many level kids.

The whole not knowing people thing might not be that big of a deal if it wasn't 5th period which decides our lunch and so I might not know anyone in my lunch. I mean, it's senior year, I just want to have lunch with my friends. Additionally, I don't know if I'll like the class. The environment does a lot for me. I want to enjoy the class and there are a lot of annoying kids in Level classes (not saying everyone in Level is annoying, but there are always those special few).

So, OPTIONS:

a) Take Forensics w/ all the issues pointed out earlier. However, it is supposed to be a blow-off class (though we're getting a new teacher), so it's won't add much of a workload.

b) Take an Aide period fifth period. I help pass out passes from the principal and counselour. I can spend the rest of the time studying and doing homework. This will probably change my lunch.

c) Take early release and switch to English 5th period. Will change my lunch. I will not have a 7th period and will leave early. Only problem would be finding a ride for my brother after school. But he did carpool with a friend last year, so we could ask them.

QUESTION ABOUT OPTIONS B & C: Would it look bad to admissions officers?

I would suggest B or C because it doesn’t seem like your that hooked and interested in forensics. You managed to point out a large number of negatives yourself. I don’t think colleges will look at you negatively because of the rigor of the rest of your courses. Probably B because you will more likely to do homework at school when you have to be there already and it will break up your day. Can you say honestly that if you go home early you’ll get started on homework instead of blowing off that extra time and having another class. B would also allow for you to pick up your brother. If you have a new forensics teacher you can’t be sure that there will only be a small amount of work.

I would do B or C. You’re course load is rigorous as it is!
My counselor told me that colleges wouldn’t see that you took early release, nothing would show up on your transcript. This may not be true, but it’s what I’ve heard. And an aide class would look like as much of a blow off as forensic, at least the college would know that you know your course load limit, which is admirable. Challenging yourself, but not overdoing it.

Hm. I know a girl who only took four classes senior year so she could do an internship and she got into UVA. And another girl I know who took an aide period got into Bowdoin. Your call but I’d choose between B and C. My personal choice would be C.

In all honesty, with your seven AP’s, I don’t think colleges will really mind if you do early release or work as an aide. Seven AP classes is rigorous, and assuming you’ve done more in your previous years, your schedule is rigorous enough to allow one or two “non-rigorous” courses.

I would recommend B, unless you would use the early release time to do something particularly productive (other than just homework). You don’t seem interested in forensic science, and there’s no reason to take it if it’s going to make your year unpleasant.

I just don’t know if my mom would dig me leaving my brother at school. That’s why I’m leaning more towards an aide period. And during an aide period I could get more work done and chill when I get home. I’d probably just take a nap with early release.

I don’t play a sport, but I am President of French Club. We meet every other week on Wednesday. Other than that, not many after school activities.
