Is forensic science really abominable? Does everybody in this field have to investigate the crime scenes directly? I am quite interested in it but my parents reject the idea, so I am quite frustrated.

From what I’ve heard, it can get pretty gruesome, depending on the prevalence of violent crime in your area.

I believe most stay in the lab, but there are crime scene examiners who go to locations.

It’s not like CSI:Miami/NY/Whatever where the all the CSIs go to the crime scene, and then go analyze in the lab and each person does more than one task and has a gun. It’s more like your job is to do fingerprints and that is what you do. Or your job is to go and collect stuff from the crime scene. Or you analyze DNA. It’s more specific so you can choose to be in the lab or out of the lab. Just google forensic science or crime scene investigations jobs.

Like you’d major in genetics/bio if you wanted to do DNA analysis or Chem if you wanted to to trace, to put it simply.

My dad works for the FBI and part of his job is something dealing with the technology of crime labs so I have a vague understanding of these things but I could totally be wrong so you should research it some yourself. : )

I think some colleges offer a “forensic science” major because of the CSI fad, but it’s preferable to go into an established science such as chemistry.
