Just came back from orientation. Toured forest.

Entry: typical. Dark, low ceiling. Not very inviting after seeing Read’s lobby lounge/food, but…?

They’re rehabbing the big lounge just off the entry so piano and couches were stacked. Center desk with mailbox was tucked/hidden away. Down some stairs was a “rec center”. I don’t even remember what it had in it. Again, flooring rehab and couches were stacked. 1-2 TVs (not very big), 2 soda (and other?) vending machines?.

Don’t take anything I say as “verbatim”. It’s from memory, and only as reliant as the person who conducted the tour. I’ve found out that we got a LOT of conflicting information on a LOT of things.

We saw only one room. First floor. Tower B. Honors is in Tower A. Floors 2,3,4. Floors on first floor of both towers have higher ceilings (makes room feel larger). Beds were bunked, room looked decent size. Very large windows that open out on 1st floor. Windows pull up on other floors, don’t know how big they are. We were in an air conditioned room, thermostat was controlled in the room and it was CCCOOLLLDD on a hot day. 2 desks, 2 chairs, tragic flourescent under cabinet desk lights. Cable TV hook up, 2 phone lines…one hooked up, have to pay to hook up the other, 1 trash can. 2 closets. Closets in B hall had shelves, closest in A hall do not. A hall has “drawers” that can be placed under the beds. (5x8?, 8x10?)throw rug over linoleum floors in both floors. Larger storage spaces over closest on first floor (taller, due to ceiling height), but still some on other floors. Very dark, beat up wood. Cement walls painted white. Ledge on window sill offers a bit of space to put little things.

Close in hallway with larger trash containers to empty waste basket. (one waste basket included per room). Some floors in each building are single gender, others are co-ed. Honors has some/all co-ed floors. Bathrooms of course single gender. They’re pretty nice. About 25 students per bathroom. I didn’t look closely, but I’m guessing 5 sinks, 5 toilet stalls, individual nice shower stalls, I think they had benches, etc. Some other halls have old toilet stalls with a shower head in them…no drain in the stall…all drains to a single stall in the floor…fairly nasty. Forest has 1/2 (?) little “rooms” with doors and BATHTUBS!!! Nice.

Laundry room seemed nice. Clean (at this time of year). MAchines looked nice/new. It’s cheaper to pay with Campus Access account money than cash (and less hassle).

Close parking for anyone lucky enough to score a D parking permit.

Right on 3rd street to Mother Bear’s Pizza is close, other things in that area included a dry cleaner. College Mall is close.

Oh, the RA who gave the tour said (she wasn’t sure) that “normal” floors have midnight quiet hour. “Academic” floors have 10pm, and “honors” floors have 9pm. Yikes. But she also said , as did alexiel, you will decide that at first floor meeting.

Very quick walk over to Read to eat. Food at Read looked very nice (not all open yet, and I didn’t get to tour it…it just looked open and airy…not sure exactly which of the Read eateries I was even looking at).

Luck to y’all.
