Forget prestige; get real.

glad to see positive responses.

joev- just.....no. i'm not going to dignify that by making fun of osu, mostly because i have a good rapport on CC. but in real life, you'd go down, hater. lol omg brb lyl

uh, i don't find brb lyl on the abreviations thread - can you help us out here?

"brb" is "be right back". I don't know about "lyl", though.

LYL is an acronym for ...
* Love Ya Lots

(had to look that one up!)

haha parents :) those are are "internet chat abbreviations," and jokingly/sarcastically i used them all together to convey a certain kind of distaste, i suppose. :)

Just wanted to add that I got much more individual attention as a senior at University of Michigan than I did as a graduate student at Harvard University (this is in the early 80s).

Several of my professors at U of M actively sought me out after class, asked me what my plans were on graduating, encouraged me, etc. (one of these professors taught a class in my major -- philosophy -- and one taught Russian Literature).

Dear Frecklybeckly - Thank you for the dose of refreshing realism . I realized that we were past the point of sanity at Christmas dinner when my mother-in-law told my DD that no one she talks to ever heard of her small, Ohio private ( my in-law as well as my family are loaded with prep schools , Cornell, Dartmouth , Smith , Mt. Holyoke graduates ) . C'mon , do we send our kids to school just to name-drop at bridge club ??
But thanks to your post , I learned about IU music program , UMich , Ohio University Honors programs because we are at edge with my son's choices for next year . People have no idea - until they go to one of these elite school - that it just may not be the choice for every child . We need to stop flattering our ego and think of the kids ' real needs.

FB ~ What a great message! I had my D read it, since I thought it was right on target.
