Forgetting to Mention Honors

I forgot to put into my UC application that I am in Phi Theta Kapa and on Deans list. Does this matter? Should I email the schools and let them know?

You should’ve probably mentioned the honors program. I was on the President’s list all of 2012 and I didn’t mention it.

It depends on what your target schools are, most of the UC’s don’t really take into account the extra curricular / work experience / personal statements in the application process. Those that do use holistic reviews will, but only after GPA / pre-reqs / personal statements. Those schools are Berkeley, UCLA, UCI, and UCM.

I think putting down that you were part of an Honors society is a good thing. It’d be better though if you would have written about it in your personal statement. Did you do any community service as a part of it? How did participating in Phi Theta Kappa help you as a student or a person? Those are the things they tend to look for that really give weight to those sections and could potentially make a difference in the application process. As far as Dean’s list and general GPA awards, I doubt it would make any difference. They already know your GPA, they know your grades for each term. Getting acknowledgement for achieving a certain GPA is nice, but it doesn’t really tell them anything novel or substantial about you as an applicant that they wouldn’t know already. And don’t get me wrong, I think you should put down everything you possibly can on the application, why not? But at this point after the TAU deadline and everything, putting that you were on the Dean’s list for 3 semesters isn’t going to be the reason you get accepted or rejected into UCLA. However, if originally had no ECs / work experience or anything reported on your app and these would be your only things, it might be worth a shot. I just don’t know that they’ll take it into consideration this late.
