Okay I'm freaking out. I totally didn't know there was a deadline to request interviews. I got an email awhile ago from U Chicago and a bunch of other schools to set up an account with them. I thought that was just administrative stuff and that I'd be contacted separately about interview requests. For U Chicago, the interview request deadline was the 8th of January. What will happen if I didn't request an interview? I also applied to Stanford, UPenn, Cornell, Rice, and Brown. Do they have the same policy? I'm almost afraid to check. Am I or is there something that I can do?

For Stanford, it depends where you live. Stanford is just doing a “pilot program” right now, so they only have alumni interviews in certain designated cities throughout the U.S. If you aren’t in one of those cities, you won’t get an interview, but it will not hurt your chances. If you are in one of those cities, then you will be contacted. For Rice, you had to request by December 1st. Don’t worry, I forgot about it too. I hate when you have to request them! I’m fairly certain UPenn will contact you and not sure about Cornell or Brown. Check their admissions websites. And honestly, for most schools it’s more of an opportunity for you to get your questions answered. I don’t think it’ll make or break you unless you were on the cusp. Good luck!

OMG thank you! Of course i trust you, but can anyone else verify this?

I will verify that everything he said was untrue.

!!!

Cornell requests you. Mine’s tomorrow =)

I was contacted for Stanford, not the other way around. I believe Penn calls you, too.

Don’t worry about Chicago–there are numerous kids around the U of C forums who were accepted without one. Usually the interview does not make or break you.

I think newest newb is just messing with you.

A Brown alum should be contacting you. That’s how it worked for my S. FYI, there’s a whole thread on Brown interviews on CC, and the first post by a long time alum who interviews is quite a good read.
