I submitted my application on January first, but when I was filling out the supplement I forgot that my grandfather received a graduate degree from Columbia. What should I do?

It doesn’t matter. Legacy for undergraduates only counts if one of your parents went to the same school you’re applying to as an undergraduate. Sorry.

OK, at least that means I did not leave out something important. Thanks

Doesn’t have to be the same school as you are applying to but yes it has to be a parent who went undergraduate to the College or SEAS to be considered a legacy. Mother attending Barnard - even before the College went coed does not count. Columbia does ask, however, if any relatives have attended the University and grad schools do count but it probably means less than even the proverbial “feather on the scale”.

Yeah. It’s definitely something to include in the application, but it’s not a big enough deal that you should bother the admissions officers to let them now about such a tangential connection.
