I'm stressing now. I start community college tomorrow and I just realized I need my books. I checked the store hours at the college online, and it opens a half hour before my first class, I'm praying they have the books I need.

no need to freak out. i've yet to start a semester with all my books. how do i manage? some professors dont give assignments the first week or if they do they give you the handouts since they know not everyone will have the books. others arent like that though. u can go to the library and sometimes they have the textbooks on reserve. you could also try to get photocopies of the material u need to read from other people in your class. those are the solutions that come to mind. i've known people who did this all 4 yrs while goin to college. ends up saving them a lot of money. sure its a bit inconvenient but you still get the job done. meanwhile just order your books at Compare Discount Book Prices & Save up to 90% - GetTextbooks.com

Usually you don't get any assignments on the first day. So don't be stressing out!

You can buy them after the first class, it's not something to stress about.

Thanks :), you eased my mind some. Well I logged into my account today and for the Office-Word 07 class it says to have our books the first day, but the class isn't till afternoon, I have over an hour for lunch, just hope they have the books at the store and not sold out.

You better hope the lines aren't crowded.

You'll be fine without books the first day. I also recommend trying to get your books online for future semesters because you can save a lot of money. Check out amazon.com and half.com.

I didn't have my books at the start of the semester as well. I bought them on the first day at the bookstore and also bought them online for a serious discount. When I received the cheaper online books I returned my bookstore books and saved a bundle.

A good deal of my courses have everything I need to know in the lectures. The textbooks either act as supplements (which I don't need) or the questions are directly from the textbook. In rare cases, I have on idea what the professor is talking about in the lectures and I read the appropriate section of the textbook to get a better understanding.

If the books are sold out, do NOT panic. Professors are very understanding about this.

professors know that not everyone will have the books... definitely do not stress.

Entirely normal. In fact, most people take the first class before they buy their books (I know I do) so they know if they want to take it or not and if the book is required. It's not like the bookstore will be out of stock.

I'm starting the second week of the 10 week quarter and I just got my books today...

You should NEVER buy books until you've actually been to class. Never know when the prof is going to stand at the front of the class, hold the book over his head and say "this is worthless - save your money for booze!" (which I had happen).
