Formal Dress Code

Daughter will be starting this fall at a school with a formal dress code. She has been in Catholic school with a uniform so she has very little that will fit the dress code. We are a FA family, so don't have a ton of $$ to spend on clothes. Any suggestions on what to buy --seems like this is so much easier for the boys (khakis, blazer, a few ties...) I don't even know where to go to find a blazer for a 15 year old girl.

Consignment stores! We have a great one in Southern NH that specializes in gently used clothes for babies/kids/teens and maternity. They have sections for mall brands too. Craigslist posting can sometimes yield donations of clothes from someone who is cleaning out their closet and would like to help you out.

I think girls are actually easier but thats mho.
Anyway, you may want to contact the school as far as blazers. Some schools have their own that you need to buy. If thats the case, some of the schools have used ones they sell or give a way.
When we went to revisit days I saw the girls wearing dresses or skirts for dress code.
Forever 21 is inexpensive and has cute girl stuff. Also try urban outfitters. Look at the sale stuff. They have a good online website.

Good luck.

I also wouldn’t buy too much to start. Your daughter may find that her fashion preferences will change as she’s influenced by the particular style at the school. She can always add pieces during Thanksgiving or as holiday gifts.

My daughter is in her first year at a formal dress code boarding school. As suggested before, I would by the bare minimum at first. Once at school, my daughter decided that she preferred dresses and most of the blazers, pants, and button downs were brought home. She thought the dress option with cardigans and leggings offered more individuality and creativity. Also, the girls in her dorm are constantly sharing clothes. One big slumber party!
