Formal Suit; What to Buy??

hello.

i've never had one, but as a graduation gift, for many senior/graduation stuffs and prom(yes), i'm gonna get one.

I need some advices. what kinda brand or price range should i look at??
anything about formal suit(3peice or whatever) would be awesome!
(also i'm thinking about wearing them for prom, is that alrigt?)

ThanktS!

you should just rent a tux for prom

its better to wear a tux to prom, but no one would really notice...or no one would care.

i think that since you're only going to be in college not to spend too much on a suit right now. probably very few people in college can tell the difference between an expensive and cheap suit.

Italian is the way to go, they're so much lighter, easier to wear.

A cheap 2 piece, singel breasted suit in either a dark navy or a dark grey. Rent a tux for prom. But, I would recommend just buying a blazer/sport coat. A navy blazer will be a lot cheaper than a suit and should work for any situation you'd encounter senior year. I can't think of anything that requires a suit that you'd need senior year. Wait another 4 years and get a suit when you're applying for a job.

Thrift stores are great places to pick up suits. No joke. Goodwill and the like generally have quality suits and jackets for <$20. Ebay is good too, especially for retro stuff, just make sure you know your measurements. My school requires a jacket and tie on Mondays, and I get all sorts of compliments on my cheap formal attire.

besides secondhanded suits (which i love to look more into!!),
what's a range of prices for a two peice suit??

You can get a new one as cheap as maybe $80 or $90 on ebay. There really is no upper limit. I bought a vintage Brioni suit on ebay for around $70. When it was new that suit probably cost someone around $2000, so that gives you an idea of the range of prices.
Check out this ebay store for a wide array of inexpensive new suits: http://stores.ebay.com/DRESS-SUITS_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQftidZ2QQtZkm
If you take some time on ebay you could probably find something really nice for not very much.

Don't listen to these people.

Rent a nice tux for prom. It's worth the $150 to look good and impress on your big day.

I don't think anyone was telling him to not rent a tux. I know I sure wasn't. I still think you have no need for a suit at this time. Buy a blazer.

yeah a blazer is what's in my mind. (i mean, i think a blazer's still akinda suit) anyway. thanks everyone!

Yeah, it's basically a suit jacket with gold buttons, haha. A suit, tie, and khakis is fine for pretty much any function other than your first job interview.

Ugh, I hate the blazer/khakis look.

Better to own a suit in that case.

3-piece Zegna :)
ok ok just go with a regular two piece black or navy. for prom i would rec a tux though.

well i dont really like a tux ;; (is it ONLY me in an entire world?)
i rather like (both look and confort) 2-peice simple (jacket and pants and shirts and a simple tie) suit(or blazar whatever you wanna call)

and i'm planning on wearing them. am i a dick (for my prom date and friends;;)?? hehe
