Forman School?

We’re considing Forman for our son, but realize after the tour the classes we saw were boat building, art and videography! We didn’t ask to see history, science or math! I have no idea how they are taught (but if he gets an offer will of course ask for a revisit!) I’m wondering if anyone has any feedback on the school. Our son is currently in 10th at Winston Prep and looking to head to Forman for junior year.

My son is graduating from Forman this Spring. He has been at Forman since 10th grade after attending a private day school. Forman has been wonderful for my son. They have transformed his academic career, given him academic confidence, and helped him manage his ADHD. We considered traditional boarding schools that had additional academic support but I think Forman’s inclusion of academic support into traditional subjects is beneficial. Students also take writing, executive functioning classes. I think boat building is not a class. It is something you can do instead of a sport. He is headed to a good LAC next Fall. I would fully recommend Forman.

My daughter is a sophomore and in her first year at Forman. She came from a math and science charter school. The math program is flexible enough to allow the more advanced math students some options. She was placed in a class with Juniors and Seniors and did well.

I think that she had completed her sophmore science requirements so she didn’t have any science this year. The sophomore history is a required 3 class program. She has enjoyed history more this year than in the past.

Hope this helps.

You can check out the course catalog to see the unique course offerings available due to the mod system. Classes are small and mostly discussion-based. There is no hiding in the back. My son hasn’t had a class yet that he was not excited about. We hear about something “cool” he’s learning in class every time we talk to him. He’s a junior currently looking at colleges and feels like he’s really found his passion in a subject I don’t think he would have even considered exploring before Forman.
We, too, considered traditional boarding schools with academic support but were afraid he’d just be using academic support to reteach course work (if a teacher wasn’t proficient in differentiation) rather than remediation. It would have also been too easy to blow off the academic support as he often felt he didn’t need it.
