Hey! so I've been writing a kind of out-of-the-box common app essay and in it for effect I want to play with a few things like spacing, centering the text, font size or type, italics, or other stuff. When I upload it, though, will any of that formatting still be there? I know that websites like turnitin totally ruin formatting. I use Mac Pages, not microsoft word.

You do know that you can turn in hard-copies of the application forms, right (PDF files available on the Common App website)…? But, since students today are too young to remember this great invention called “paper,” that might not be a choice. (LOL - sorry).

Even if you could get the formatting to stay, you need to be careful that it does not come across as gimmicky. Mac Pages will produce a PDF file, but I’m not sure it you can upload that as part of the online app.

Haha excuse me for trying to be eco-friendly and not print 100 pages of application materials
But I guess that’s an option.

And I’m not worried about it being gimmicky. Well, I am, but that’s why I’m going to have classmates, teachers, parents, etc. read it, I’m not coming to college confidential for advice on the content of my essay

^100 pages of apps will have no effect on the environment.

If you want to do a weird format, I would make sure that people can read it easily.
