Former College dropout, now Transfer student w/ weak transcript admission ?

Ok so my story is as follows...

I attended a Community College when I was 18 and fresh out of high school, I made some poor life choices as well as had some personal family issues in which the end result was me dropping out after one year of courses.

When I did I dropped improperly so my transcript is littered with NWs and 2 Fs, which is beyond shameful.

I have since returned to school at 25 years old and have made up all the classes that I had dropped out of.

I am looking to transfer out of state to a reasonably decent school with a good business program, I am from Massachusetts and my CC does have agreements with UMASS which I don't really want to attend.

I am now sitting at a 3.0 GPA and currently doing 2 Internships as well as community service.

Does anyone know if my past will be held against me too badly? I assume every case is different but I am really trying to right my wrongs, I just don't want to feel as though I'm wasting time looking into "better" schools when they wouldn't think twice about me. I realistically don't expect to go to an Ivy League school, but a ranked school would be nice.

Thanks

Does your CC have a transfer advisor or transfer counselor who can help you with this whole process? That person would know where other students with profiles like yours have ended up.

Generally speaking, the older a bad record is, the less it matters. So look around for institutions that admit many transfer with GPAs of 3.0 and you should be fine.

At many colleges if you are over the age of 24 or so then many colleges will consider you a non-traditional student with different admission pathways. And whether via this avenue or not, your more recent work is going to be given much more weight that something from 7 years ago (in fact your old record might be completely ignored).

I echo the advice above; talk to a xfer counselor at your CC.

Thanks for the replies, I will do that.

I also received a letter today that I was accepted into the Student Leadership Program my school offers, it says its also a transcript/resume booster so im pretty excited
