johnwesley is an alumn, actually. So, whether or not he’s point pointlessly argumentative doesn’t have much bearing on how Wes students are now, or how he will do in the real world :P

Also, while it’ may be true that many school’s admit rates went down this year (though to be fair to John Wesley, that article talked about a number of top LACs where this was not true, not just Williams), Wes’s was one of the biggest drops (27-22% - compare to 25%-24% at Vassar), because it had one of the biggest increases in applications % wise, of top schools (it and Brown, I think).

But, mainly I wanted to point out that the 27% number is quite possibly no longer accurate – if the same is true of the 25% number, that’s fine too. The point is, next year it might be that these schools will be harder for Nigiri’s son than those number would suggest, and it’s possible that Wes will be dramatically harder, if the trend holds. As I said, this year might have been a fluke for Wes, or maybe the 22% number will hold but not drop at all.

Either way, it is very true that Vassar and Wes are very similar, and anyone who is interested in one would be well advised to look at the other as well (I also agree with you that Vassar is more traditionally pretty, though I preferred Wes’s more urban feel. But if you want the classic beautiful small college look, few places can compete with Vassar!).
