Hey guys. Im totally freaking out after seeing some random kinetics equations in the Barrons Chem book! (I know that theyre notorious for their difficulty but...) Are we expected to memorize all these equations (from basic ones to advanced ) for Chemistry and Physics B, or are they supplied??? Please help!

For Physics, yes. The formulas are supplied for the free response portion of the test, but not for MC.

for chem..on FR u'll have the formula sheets (my suggestion...still get a good understanding and familiarity with the formula sheet)

but on MC u wont!! so u need to memorize the more common formulas...like Nernst eq, the hydrogen spectra equations, ideal gas law of course, freezing/boiling temp depressions, rate laws, pH, (basically all of them)

I took the chem test last year and got a 5. Generally, I don't think the MC questions require you to memorize a lot of formulas. The MC section won't include any hardcore math, especially since collegeboard won't give you a calculator. It's more about understanding the principles of a few common formulas, like with the ideal gas law, what happens when more gas molecules are added into a container?

Since PV = nRT, when one side of the equation goes up (nRT since gas molecules are added), then the other side of the equation must go up. The container doesn't magically increase its volume, so the pressure within the container goes up, obviously.

You just need to know the patterns for different equations. Also, if you have trouble with kinetics equations, look at the FRQs on collegeboard. I think there was 1 kinetics equation for each year in the past 5 years. They're very easy when you do a few of them for practice. The setup is always the same. Hope that helps :)
