Hi everyone,

Since I don't see posts about Foster, I decide to start one here for business undergraduate transfer.

I am looking for UW students applying for Foster, and I hope they can post the average WSA score to this thread, so we know how hard will it be getting into Foster this year.

Also, I am welcome for all Foster applicants to discuss and bring up questions about Foster.

I think there are plenty of threads here about Foster, the information is just scattered around… But this thread might be a good place to keep it together.

And here are the stats from two previous admission periods:

Winter’12 Weight/Applicants/Admitted
Combined GPA 40%/3.41/3.50
WSA Score 35%/3.57/4.44
Pre-App GPA 25%/3.50/3.61

Fall’11 Weight/Applicants/Admitted
Combined GPA 40%/3.44/3.55
WSA Score 35%/3.67/4.32
Pre-App GPA 25%/3.38/3.62

seatac,Thank you for posting those stats!
Are you also applying to Foster this fall?
Can you share your stats ?

I am an international student and have a 3.68 gpa applying from a cc
I will be completed all the pre req courses after this quarter, and I am taking financial accounting and law classes this quarter.

From the stats, it seems like they really concern our wsa score

Yes, I have already applied. I have a 3.8 preapp and 3.86 cumulative, from a CC.

Yes, the WSA is the main deciding factor if you have a good GPA.

I will copy-paste in here my earlier post about how they admit:

“This is how they admit: they take your pre-app and cumulative GPA, your WSA score, then they put it all into a spreadsheet and it calculates an index score for everyone. First they fill 80% of their spots with those with the highest index score. Then they do a holistic review for the remaining 20% of the spots. So, everyone who has a WSA score >3 will be considered in this review. This is when your personal statement plays the biggest role (they don’t look at it if you are in the 80%). This is all from the words of an adviser.”

Thank you for contributing!
I think you got a big chance of being admitted!
However, my gpa is kind of low, but it is still higher than the average transfer gpa. Do you think this will enhance my chance of being admitted? In fact I am an international student, and do you think this will benefit my application?

One more question, is the pre-app gpa the gpa that I submitted when applying to Foster?
Sorry for too many questions
Thank you for answering :)

I don’t think being an international student will help or hurt your application.

@FlyFlydos, thanks. I hope I will get it, but I’m worried about my WSA. English isn’t my first language, and I can write well only when I have enough time.

If your GPA is higher than average, you shouldn’t worry much. It’s the average, after all (that means there are people with <3.0 also…). As I said above - stats do play a significant role. Your slightly above average GPA might influence you significantly if you would get a low WSA also. If you get a very good WSA (5.0, for example), then it will offset your GPA. WSA’s weight in the index score is 35%…

The fact that you are an international student shouldn’t affect their decision at all. They are admitting you into the department, not the university. And as I heard if you get into the department you want, you get into the university as well.

Your pre-app GPA is the GPA of the following courses: Calculus, English, Financial Accounting, Micro or Macroeconomics (you can use whichever grade is greater in calculating).

"I heard if you get into the department you want, you get into the university as well. "

I have a friend who got admitted into a department but never got admitted to UW-Seattle

Wow. What were her stats and did she satisfy all the admission requirements for the university? It might be a case if the department is not competitive and admits everyone - in this case it makes sense that the university won’t want somebody with low stats.

Thank you for answering seatac! English is also not my first langauge, and I notice that most of my friends who are international students didn’t apply to Foster. Since the seats are limited, I think this will boost our chances hopefully haha.

Btw, do you guys know any UW students applying to Foster ? I can’t wait to know the average WSA score this year!
