Foster kid applying to Dartmouth

I’m a foster kid who was previously a ward of the state and at one point homeless. I really like Dartmouth. But, compared to my competition, I’m having some doubts. I’m honestly undecided on whether I should apply to Dartmouth. I really like the school’s liberal arts program, and really want to major in History, my passion. But, my GPA and SAT are holding me down. I can get my SAT up, but I can’t really help my GPA much at this point.

So, what can I really do to help my chances? And am I hopeless?

Here are my stats if it helps:

You could pull up your math SAT if you are able to take it again. I’m not sure that being the president of a gamer club is much of an EC but I’m an old fogy so feel free to ignore that comment. Your story is compelling and your stats generally put you in the mix. Dartmouth is a reach but it’s a reach for almost everyone who applies. You’re unique enough that it might be a near reach, but none of us really knows what the admissions folks are looking for these days (or how how much the need for aid will factor in). Is the cross country coach aware of you? I would reach out and make contact if you haven’t already. Sometimes you just need one little extra point.

@AboutTheSame Yeah he knows about me! We’re actually really close. I’m his top runner and student (he’s also my math teacher) and he wrote an awesome rec for me.

I think AbouttheSame means reach out to the cross country coach at Dartmouth?

Definitely apply!

^^ Doh … Have sent OP the link to recruiting information.

@AboutTheSame thanks!!
