lol wow, "ethical dilemma"

I would keep it. It'll take at least 20 dollars of your time to find the owner.

Why is this an ethical dilemma, especially since I'm assuming you're already in college...?
If you want to keep it, keep it. If your superego is pestering you about it, then deal with it - follow it or let go.

Why is this even a question? You found it - it's yours.

Is $20 a lot to a college student? How about a little kid or an elderly person, the type of person most likely to have lost it? We almost always turn in lost money, and I know, my kids think it's futile. If it's in a store, give it to the store manager. If it's in a dorm, give it to the R.A. Or in either case, you could take it, but give your name and number, and tell them to call you if anyone reports losing some money. Have you ever had money, a purse, or a wallet returned to you? We have. One time we got it back in a Toys-R-Us after my 5 yr. old dropped it. It was the greatest feeling!

You're probably a better person than the rest of us. Personally, I would just keep it.

there are ways you can go about to find the person, but it would take out some of your time. for instance, you could post up a sign and have people call you or email you if they have lost something "green"... hopefully they'll get the message. but it could take a while and you might get a lot of strange calls. i personally wouldn't go through all that trouble.

Post on a relevant message board- Found $20, if you think it's yours tell me where and when you lost it. If no one responds accurately, it's yours.

I would keep it if I just found it on the ground. Cash is very hard to find the owner of because everyone has the same stuff. Whenever I have lost cash, I have been mad but it's hard to even know where you lost something like that sometimes. If it was a debit/credit card, or a wallet (with money and ID), I would try to find the owner. I have had a debit card returned to me before and I was very grateful, even though I never found out who did it (someone turned it in to my bank). That person totally got some major karma points that day though.

if you don't think it will find it's way back to it's rightful owner, and you feel uneasy keeping it, then donate it to charity and help somebody else out.

I would keep it simply because people don't keep track of the serial #'s on the bills they have, so there's no proof someone who claimed the money actually lost it in the first place.

It happened to toledogirl yesterday so I had to go back and dig up this post. She found it at lunch time out in the street next to her small high school. She took it to the principal, who said if no one claimed it by the end of the day, she could have it. I'm proud of her for trying to find the owner, even though no one came forward.

Unless it might be your roommate's or something, I'd always keep it. Otherwise its just more work for happening to find a bill.

didnt read others' replies, but.....do what you feel in your gut. simple as that, imo.

There's nothing ethical about this. Unless you cant think of a way they could prove it's theirs, keep it.

LOL @ Post 27.
And LOL at the OP. I really hope you are just a troll.

You have to be kidding -_-

I would probably keep it, and if it nagged at me I would do as some other people said and donate it to charity.
