I've recently read a lot about student's clubs, and at our college there's no such thing as a nightline / some way for students to get advice anonymously.
From what I've discussed with friends (who are at another uni), there is a great demand for this, and I'd really like to start something like this.

However, I do not know the people for this.
I know where to get initial funding, I know how to get rooms, I even know someone who would teach the students the psych-stuff - all of this is doable for me.
But I need at least five people who would be willing to work on this for a few hours a week - and that's HARD.
My friends aren't that interested (we're all engineers), and we're studying at a technical university, so no psych department either..

How would you go about finding people ?
And do you have any other helpful tips for me?

Thanks.

Is there a facebook page for your school? One way that one of my friends started an organization was that she went on there, posted something, and then got enough responses to start a group. Just a thought.

Good luck :)

There is one for my faculty. In fact, this is one idea I’ll try Thanks.

I started an organization at my school for students with disabilities. I managed to get 30 people at our first meeting by advertising through facebook, and I got a department to send an email for me. We did a few fliers too but those aren’t really cost effective in my opinion, a few big posters in high traffic areas might be better. Your best bet, I think, would be to schedule a meeting, promote the crap out of it, and go from there. You are going to have to do some fund raising if there isnt a department or individual willing to sponsor you. We have our meetings in an empty classroom or in study lounges. The organizational aspect of things is pretty easy, it’s getting people motivated to DO something once they show up to the meeting.

Another idea might be to team up with another school nearby that has a psych department, if the addition of a psych department is a significant game changer, and offer the service to both schools. I collaborate with other schools on some of my group’s projects and I find it to be much more rewarding than just working for my school.

Thanks a lot!
There is a liberal arts school nearby, and I’ll try to find some people… in fact, there is a shared newspaper, and announcing it there could be a good idea; additionally: facebook, posters in high-frequency areas, announcements on uni website -
sounds like a plan :-)!

Thanks a lot, you’re brilliant - cc is always the place to ask when having such “overachiever” ideas
I’m setting up a website and email right now, and start working on posters, articles, etc :-)
