I'm an international student from Korea, and I heard from CMU that I was NOT admitted. Even though I didn't have to, I just decided to check the status page for my application and found out something strange. My ACT score was NOT posted on the status!

I've taken both SAT and ACT, and I believed that ACT represented better what kind of student I am. Therefore, my ACT score was something that MUST have been considered in looking at who I am. In order to make sure that everything was in, I had checked with them before they looked at my application that both SAT and ACT scores were in, and I have receipt to prove it if needed.

I'm currently on spring break, so I tried to contact my college counselor via e-mail but don't know when he'll see it. Since CMU requested me to send my ACT score via fax, I'm going to do that ASAP, but I need some advice about this situation. I have NEVER heard of this happened, and it's just upsetting me so much...

Why don’t you send your ACT scores directly to CMU via the ACT website, you’ll have to pay but it’s at least they will get your scores, you can explain it in an email.

ACT has messed up several times for my Ds. In one case, they sent the scores to the wrong address and we didn’t know about it until 2 months later when the school contacted us. In another case, it’s been 4 MONTHS and there’s a school without the ACT report that we paid for. I haven’t figured out yet if the school messed up or the ACT.

So the rule seems to be, assume it all went wrong, and pester the admissions office to let you know when they’ve received everything, just in case. And bless those schools that send you a little postcard telling you your file is complete so you won’t be scrambling in the last days of March.

sm900 – Take a breath and try to get some sleep. CMU is aware of what happened and it sounds like they are prepared to respond. Talk to them in the morning and see what they say. It sounds like you have their attention.
