Foundation Felllowship

Hi mayabern! I am a Foundation Fellows finalist like your student. I would be glad to answer any questions you have, I’m a bit of an obsessive planner so I know practically everything there is to know about the program

I can say that every student who applied has received an email either saying they were selected or they were not selected – I know at least three people who did not make it and three who did, and they all found out at the same time. Marmee3, I’m sorry that unfortunately it probably means your student’s application was not submitted correctly or completely.

The Fellows and Ramseys do interact. Not as much as in their specific groups; the Fellows have their own retreats and the Ramseys have theirs. But it is a wonderful community either way. Both groups have a system of “Bigs” and “Littles” in which an older student shows a new student around and is basically their friend. They’re just like little families!

Hi mayabern, I just wanted to give you a quick perspetive from a freshman Ramsey! I was rather hesitant to accept the Ramsey scholarship because I felt there would be a large distinction between Fellows and Ramseys. Truthfully, the distinction is almost nonexistent. Fellows and Ramseys go on different retreats and different Spring Break trips. Freshmen Fellows go to Oxford in the summer and Ramseys do not. Aside from the difference in the monetary value of the scholarships, those are the only main differences.
I’m a first year Ramsey and my hall is composed of all of the girl Ramseys and Fellows. Ramseys are invited to all of the same (very cool) dinner seminars that Fellows are invited to attend. We get the privilege of hanging out in the Fellows Library during the day. Some of my very best friends are Fellows. Aside from the times when Fellows are discussing their plans for Oxford, I hardly ever feel excluded because I’m a Ramsey.

Please let me know if there are any other questions I can answer for you! Hope this hels some

Thank you for that perspective, kew! I’m also a FF finalist and I was wondering what life was like at UGA as a Ramsey scholar.

You said that your hall is composed of Ramseys as well and that you are a first year. Are you living in Myers?

Hey upsidedown! Congrats on being a finalist!! I’m living in Myers this year, and I love it! It’s conveniently located, clean, beautiful, and pretty wonderful. It’s definitely not what you think of when you think of the typical college dorm. I don’t know who does it (housing, honors, FF office), but I do know that a considerable amount of effort is put into placing Ramseys/Fellows in the same halls (to help further establish those bonds and friendships.) There are some non-Fellows/Ramseys on my hall, and it’s great having them there too. The same situation goes for the guys: the Fellows all live on the same hall with some other honors students. If you’re interested, there’s an opportunity for you to come see Myers and some of the dorms in Myers during interview weekend!

Hey upsidedown! I tried messaging you privately, but it said your inbox is full! Let me know when you delete some of your messages so I can message you

All good now! Sorry about that.

Good luck to the class of 2017 interviewing this weekend. I know the current fellows are excited to welcome you to campus tomorrow. Try to relax and be your self. Please come back and let us know how you all do.

Regardless of the outcome, it is amazing to be selected as a Ramsey. Good luck!

Does anyone know how many FFs will also be Stamps Scholars?

Socialdramamama- Unless protocols have changed, I don’t think it makes any difference, they are all Fellows. My d is designated a fellow under the name of a large donor, but it makes no difference to her fellowship program. I think there is one “stamp scholar” in the class of 2015.

We heard Mr Stamps speak at GT PSP interview weekend. His is an amazing person and the opportunities he offers Stamp Scholars are truly a gift. It is nice to see this program expand to other schools.

From my d, 61 invites to the weekend, 57 attended and 30 offered FF. I think they are expecting a class of 20/21.

My D is a Stamps Scholar & one of her good friends is a new Foundation Fellow so they were hoping her friend may be a Stamps Scholar also. Mr. Stamps is incredible & my D is so honored to know him. Congratulations to your D. I am proud of all of the terrific kids on CC.
