For all you ff/bernard ramsey applicants, I just heard that the invites are definitely being mailed this week. So, good luck to everyone that applied, and if you get a letter let us know so we can all keep watching for the mailman!!!!!

D got email today - finalist! A friend of hers in another part of the state got one too. Another friend did not get an email but a friend of his did. Seems that finalists are being notified by email and all will get letters.

Email said 55 were chosen from over 900 applications. To add some perspective, of D’s two friends, both got Emory Scholars but only one got FF. (D did not apply to Emory.)

Getalifemom: Congrats to your D!!! What an honor.

What were her stats? Anyone from OOS?

Georgia
2340 SAT
4.0 GPA uw; 4.24 (how I think UGA weights)
excellent recs, ec’s, and leadership

I got it too :). This is a great sign, but I don’t know if I’ll head to UGA anytime soon. However, it is a compelling choice

I’m OOS, so without $$ UGA is not an option. I have a 35 on ACT and 4.12 GPA with lots of honors/awards/leadership. I thought I would get something, even small, but a lot of people are looking for scholarships these days. I have $$ from other schools, but was really excited about UGA. Congrats to all - use it well!!

looking forward to meeting everyone this weekend!

Has anyone heard from FF for the fall class of 2012?

No, but I keep waiting to hear! Let’s keep each other updated.

"Email said 55 were chosen from over 900 applications. To add some perspective, of D’s two friends, both got Emory Scholars but only one got FF. (D did not apply to Emory.) "

Yeah, but isn’t FF scholars far harder to get than regular UGA honors? I would honestly expect someone to get Emory scholar over that any day (if only because less apply for Emory scholar, and those who do apply tend to be those more likely to yield if they get it. So there is greater incentive to grant the scholarship). That program invests a lot of resources into students who get it. If I were awarding such a scholarship at a University with 1/10 the endowment of the nearby elite private, I would be extremely selective too. If I had to choose between applying to either, I would choose FF based on quality of investment and Emory Scholars based on likelihood of getting in (And I suppose Emory’s overall environment may be more appealing to extremely high achievers. However, it honestly can just add to the competition. Not to mention, Ga. students like the D-1 sports scene which they would miss at Emory which is much more of an academically/professional oriented campus w/only D-3). Emory Scholars are awesome, but lets be honest, many normal admits get the exact treatment as there is enough money to go around for everybody. They only get advantages in housing and enrollment time. No special classes for them or anything (then again, don’t need it. Even freshman classes are small enough and at a reasonable enough level to invalidate the need to separate based on ability. Not to mention, ability level is very uniform). And enrollment time advantage can be all be nullified by the millions of students on this campus with like 1 million AP credits. Only real advantage is being labelled a “scholar” (though admittedly, scholars often buck the trend of pre-professionalism on campus).

to sayshaw cnad cdiddy- did either of you get a scholarship in december- such as charter. A few of us who became friends on cc noticed the ones of us who had children applying for ff that did not get a early charter, ended up getting a invitation to ff weekend or a presidential scholarship valued at $3000- so if you have gotten nothing you are probably slotted for something higher.
And these kids had similar stats- all 4.0 or above. My son had a 1550 SAT and 2300 total and all the others were similarly above 1500 and 2200.
Good luck. If it helps at decision time, my son did not get ff but got a presidential scholarship and is in honors and LOVES UGA and his classes!!!

I have been surprised when my friends of High school seniors have been announcing their child received a charter scholarship. When I think back to last year, my D ( now a FF) didn’t receive any early scholarships or funnily enough a class of 2015 T shirt.

I was searching some old emails and saw one from my D about her invitation to the interview weekend. Think it was dated Jan 25th, so you don’t have much longer to wait.

Good Luck to all 2016 applicants!

I haven’t heard anything from them other than honors college acceptance over a month ago and a tshirt haha. I’m hoping no news is good news! If anyone hears from FF or other scholarships, make sure and post.

Same here cdiddy1. I found out about my Honors Program acceptance about a month ago and then got the tshirt a week or so ago. Hopefully, we’ll receive some more news soon.
I have a question for Gibson1514 or anyone else who has a son or daughter that went to the FF weekend. Around what time on that Saturday did the interviews end? I’m supposed to be in Chapel Hill, NC Saturday afternoon for the Morehead weekend.

Interviews are staggered from late morning to late afternoon and I seem to remember inflexible. The weekend was well run but expect a hard sell. The opportunities offered are spectacular for both eventual FF’s and those who remain Ramsey Scholars. My D was torn and knows she gave up a lot in not taking the fellowship. First semester at her school she took a class from her global health hero and has never regretted her decision. Your kids will have equally tough decisions but there are tremendous opportunites of which to take advantage everywhere.

My D’s interviews were pretty early on Sat morning. I think she was one of the first. We were back home by around 1. I remember another young lady who was flying from the interview weekend to LA for an interview at a film school. You MUST attend the interview weekend to be named a Ramsey and be considered for the Fellowship.

Be rest assured most of the students invited have multiple scholarship opportunities. We met several from the ff weekend at Techs Presidential weekend, and D ran into a couple more at another school.

The Fellowship staff are wonderful. I am sure if you have to leave campus by a certain time they will accommodate your request- just make sure you request an early interview ASAP. By the time you reach the interview weekend UGA really wants you to attend! You will definitely feel the “love”.

I’m really nervous to hear from ff/Ramsey since my test scores aren’t up there like everyone else’s. I have the APs, the leadership positions, the service, the GPA but not the scores. Any advice for a girl like me? And are the charters, well any scholarships, still being handed out?

I got an email at 6:30 today, I qualified as a finalist! Good luck to everyone else!!

If you don’t mind me asking, what were your stats? I got denied, 1480 for two part SAT, 4.6 GPA, decent ECs/leadership
